A different kind of jiggy with it

By Borys Kit

Speaking of "Hancock," the movie's premiere saw star Will Smith take to the stage and deliver what was a surprise to many -- a half hour set of his rap hits with his
longtime pal DJ Jazzy Jeff.

But that wasn't the most unexpected part.

The world's biggest movie star, after thanking the creators, said that the movie was trying for something more thought-provoking -- and then made this rather candid comment: "Sometimes we hit, and sometimes we don't," he said.

It was a moment that gave pause to a few people in the room, including us. What the world's biggest movie star speaking for himself? For the filmmakers? Was he anticipating audience reaction?

It's rare that a movie star acknowledges the possibility of a shortcoming before the movie opens. Actors usually do their best to marshal audiences to theatres.

But no answers were forthcoming. Just as quickly as that unexepected glimpse came, the curtain whooshed down and Smith kicked into his first song, "Summertime."
