Gobs and gobs of Arrested Development?

By Leslie Simmons

Arre

Jason Bateman may be practicing the power of positive thinking. The question is -- will it work? We can only hope.

The "Hancock" actor has been chatting up reporters since Sundance that a bigscreen version of "Arrested Development" is in the works. Fox, which produced the defunct critical darling, denies there are any concrete plans for a movie.  "It's something we'd certainly like to do, but there's no script and no deals," one studio exec said.

Still, that hasn't stopped Bateman from talking about it like it's nearly ready to shoot. At Monday night's premiere of "Hancock," the actor said "we're all on board" to do the film, but admitted there's no script and he doesn't know whether creator Mitch Hurwitz has even met with Fox brass.

Bateman's not the only one pushing the project. At the premiere of "Hellboy II" on Sunday, Jeffrey Tambor, the show's delinquent patriarch, also spoke about the project like it was definitely happening. "After months of speculation, I think we have finally figured out for sure that we are indeed doing an 'Arrested Development' movie," Tambor told EW.com. "I am very excited about that. I love that cast and crew and I felt like we had more to say."

Despite these most recent public proclamations, Fox's official comment remains the same: no project. For now, we can only dream of returning to a world of illusions, geriatric love and never nudes.

I'd love if there was an AD movie, not to mention, with Catherine O' Hara and Jeffery Tambor also being cast in Good Behavior, I think this is a great time to do it.
