Anne Hathaway as Catherine O'Hara

By Steven Zeitchik

Anne Hathaway is getting so much buzz for her turn as a former addict in "Rachel Getting Married" she actually may be the first actor to make an Oscar joke months before most of the Oscar movies are even released, as she did on SNL this week (in a For Your Consideration-esqe turn that would make Christopher Guest proud).

It's a position far from that taken by Helen Mirren, who after October buzz a couple years ago had her a shoo-in, compared the Oscar talk to a very pleasant path that one had to resist walking down at all costs. (To be fair, the joke was likely written for Hathaway.)

Meanwhile, the actress seems to be going back to her whimsical roots after her "maturity," as some critics have put it, in "Rachel Getting Married" (we mean, she is 25; are we expecting another turn as a tween princess?). THR's Borys Kit reports she'll take the role of the White Queen in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," sure to be a media bonanza when the movie finally is made and released so many casting stories from now. But maybe better if she sticks to Jay Leno on that promotional go-round.
