Directors give Dark Knight one more boost -- but will it be enough?

By Steven Zeitchik

Can we pencil "The Dark Knight" in for best picture at the Oscars? The DGA helped seal its fate today by naming Chris Nolan one of its five nominees for best director prize.

The group's nominations are for the same five titles that the Producers Guild of America chose --"Button," "Slumdog," "Frost/Nixon" and "Milk." That should bode well for the Chris Nolan  tentpole-- though awards buffs and Googling bloggers will note that as recently as two years ago the DGA and PGA agreed on all five choices, but one of them -- 'Dreamgirls" -- did not wind up with a best pic nomination.

And even director isn't a lock -- the DGA has differed from the Academy on choices sometimes, last year, for example, going with Sean Penn instead of Jason Reitman. The Caped Crusader intrigue continues.

I hope it does make it as a best picture nominee and wins but the SAG awards did not nominate it, that's not a good sign.

Leonardo DiCaprio should be nominated and both Leo and Kate should best actor and actress for Revolutionary Road.

I think Slumdog Millionaire should be nominated for best direction.
